India comprehensively defeated Bangladesh in the first Test match

Coming to first Test, Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh pacers made a sublime start as India top-order, comprising Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill walked back with single digit scores.

Yashasvi Jaiswal played a handy knock of 56 runs. He made some recovery along with Pant, who contributed 39 off 52. However, both of them were guilty of not converting that into big scores as India had lost six wickets for 144 runs on the board.

It looked like India might fold under 250 but Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja had other plans. The duo stitched a sensational 199-run partnership, thereby stealing the momentum from Bangladesh. Ashwin went on to score a sensational ton, while Jadeja amassed 86 off 124.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 149 in the first innings, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s sensational effort with the ball. He scalped four wickets for 50 runs in 11 overs. Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep picked up 2 wickets each.

India didn’t enforce the follow-on and came back to bat again. Rohit Sharma, eventually declared at 287 for 4 wickets and set Bangladesh a target of 515 runs to chase. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant rocked back into form with respective tons.

Chasing the mammoth total, Bangladesh got all-out in the fourth innings on day 4 for 234 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin ran through Bangladesh’s batting, picking six wickets, while his partner in crime, Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets.

The second Test is scheduled to take place from 27th September to 1st October 2024 at Green Park in Kanpur.
