India and England are currently facing off against each other in the first match of the T20I series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first. Indian bowlers bowled really well and picked up wickets at regular intervals to halt the momentum of the England team. They were bowled out for 132 runs by the Indian bowlers.
Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who have been the opening combination for the Indian team since the T20 World Cup 2024, opened the innings for India yet again. Samson has been in breathtaking form in T20I cricket in the last year, having scored three T20 hundreds in 2024. He hit the ground running quickly in the second over.

Samson took the attack to Gus Atkinson in the second over of the innings and smashed 22 runs off his over. The Kerala batter smashed two boundaries in the first two balls of the over, backed it up with a six on the fourth ball, and then smashed two consecutive boundaries in the final two deliveries of the over.
Meanwhile, coming to England’s batting, Jos Buttler was the lone fighter for his team with a 68-run innings off 44 deliveries with eight boundaries and two sixes during his innings. Arshdeep Singh was sensational with the new ball and scalped two crucial wickets in his first spell. Varun Chakravarthy continued with his good form by picking up three wickets in his spell. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel scalped two wickets each.
At the time of writing, India are 39/0 in four overs and are chasing the target very comfortably. England will need to strike back quickly and in regular intervals to bring them back in the game. It remains to be seen what happens in the innings finally.
