IND vs NZ: Team India had a very disappointing day on the field on the second day of the first Test match of the series against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
After the first day was washed out due to rain, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and surprised everyone with his decision.
He elected to bat first on an overcast and gloomy morning in Bengaluru. As fate would have it, India were bowled out for just 46 runs and could not survive the pace, bounce and movement on the wicket. After the end of Day 2, Sharma accepted the fact that it was a mistake on his part to bat first after winning the toss.
The Indian captain said that he and the team management felt that the ball would not seam after the first session. He felt that the wicket would be flat but he misread the wicket. However, Sharma did put a question mark on the shot selection of his batters.
โWe thought it wouldnโt help the seamers much after the first session or so. There wasnโt much grass either. We expected it to be much flatter than it turned out to be. It was a misjudgment on my part, and I couldnโt read the pitch well. On a pitch where there was assistance for the seamers, and now that we were bowled out for 46, you could say the shot selection wasnโt up to the mark. It was a bad day. Sometimes, you plan to do something but fail to execute,โ stated Rohit during the post-match press conference.
IND vs BAN: India have to put an inspiring performance on Day 3 in Bengaluru
At the end of Day 2, New Zealand are clearly on the driver’s seat with a lead of 134 runs. They have already scored 180 runs for the loss of three wickets with Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell at the wicket. India will need an inspiring performance from the bowlers on Day 3 and then the batters in the second innings, to make a match out of it.
