India’s men’s cricket team keeps on playing a lot of cricket throughout the year. Add to it the Indian Premier League (not international cricket) and their schedule becomes extremely hectic. They are rounding off an eventful 2024 with the Boxing Day Test match at the iconic MCG in Australia and 2025 has bigger challenges for them.

The year will start with the New Year Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for team India in January. This match will end their ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle as well. Soon after returning from the Australia tour, India will face England at home for eight white-ball matches.

The two teams will lock horns in five T20Is and three One-Day Internationals from January 22 to February 12. A week later, the Men in Blue will be in action in the ICC Champions Trophy where they will play their matches in Dubai with the final scheduled on March 9. The official hosts of the tournament are Pakistan but the competition will be played in a hybrid model as per the latest agreement.

What will team India do after the IPL?

There is a break for the Indian team in international cricket till the last week of May after Champions Trophy, due to IPL. In June, if qualified, India’s Test team will play in the WTC Final currently scheduled to be played from June 11 to 15 at Lord’s in London.

In the same month, India’s five-match Test series against England away from home will also commence. This series will also mark the start of the new WTC cycle for both teams and will be played from June 20 to August 4.

As per the Future Tour Program released for 2023-27, India are also slated to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series in August. At home, India will also host the West Indies and South Africa for two Test matches each from October to December. Moreover, India will yet again tour Australia for a white-ball series (3 ODIs and 5 T20Is). However, the schedule for all these series and tours are yet to be announced officially.

There is a possibility of a couple more series to be added to the roster as currently, there is nothing in the schedule in September for the team. But looking at the confirmed schedule, the Champions Trophy, WTC Final (if qualified) and the Test tour of England are certainly massive challenges for India next year.

What about the Indian Women’s team?

The Indian Women’s team ended 2024 with a 3-0 ODI series win over the West Indies at home. However, same questions persisted for them in both white-ball formats as the wait for ICC silverware continued. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, were knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the group stage. As far as their schedule in 2025 is concerned, the Women in Blue will be in action in January against Ireland. The two teams will lock horns in the three-match ODI series from January 10 to 15.

India’s U19 Women’s team will also be in action in the T20 World Cup from January 18 to February 2 in Malaysia. The Indian players will be in action in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) after that. However, as of now, the Indian Women’s team has no schedule confirmed till May.

In June, they are scheduled to tour England for five T20Is and three ODIs from June 28 to July 22.
