India will host England in the second ODI of the series at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The Men in Blue are coming to this game on the back of a win in the first ODI in Nagpur. Star batter Virat Kohli, who missed out on the first ODI due to a knee injury, is set to return to the playing XI in the second game. However, the main question remains: Who will he replace in the playing XI?
Shreyas Iyer, who came to bat at number four after the loss of two quick wickets in the run chase, scored 59 runs off 36 deliveries. However, the Mumbaikar revealed that he would not have played the game if Kohli was fit to be playing in the first ODI.
Yashasvi Jaiswal might be left out of the playing XI of India in the second ODI against England
India fielded Yashasvi Jaiswal to give a left and right combination at the opening spot. However, with Iyer scoring in the first ODI, it looks like Jaiswal will be benched and India will return Shubman Gill and Captain Rohit Sharma at the top, followed by Kohli at number three.
Iyer will bat at number four, followed by KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper-batter at number five. Hardik Pandya will be the seam-bowling all-rounder at number six, followed by Axar Patel, who scored 52 runs and scalped one wicket. Patel was elevated up the order during the run chase in the first ODI. Ravindra Jadeja will bat at number eight, having scalped three wickets with the ball as well in the first ODI.
Kuldeep Yadav will be the primary spinner. Mohammed Shami will yet again lead the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Harshit Rana, who scalped three wickets in his ODI debut, might pave the way for Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI.
India’s Predicted Playing XI for the second ODI: Rohit (C), Gill (VC), Kohli, Iyer, Rahul, Hardik, Axar, Jadeja, Kuldeep, Shami, Arshdeep
