India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the opening round of the Duleep Trophy due to a handy injury. He had, earlier, made a profound announcement of making a comeback to red-ball cricket and was hence picked in the Duleep Trophy.


India’s T20I skipper opted to feature in the Buchi Babu tournament ahead of the Duleep trophy; however, while playing for Mumbai, he sustained an injury to his hand. Since then, Suryakumar has been rested and has headed to National Cricket Academy for routine assessment.

Suryakumar picked up the injury while fielding for Mumbai against TNCA XI. He was immediately sent to National Cricket Academy to start recovery process. Surya could not bat in the second innings against the Tamil Nadu XI due to his injured hand.

Talking about the Duldeep Trophy, he was placed under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Team C, who were supposed to play against Team D, led by Shreyas Iyer at the Anantapur. Earlier, M Siraj and Umran Malik were ruled out and replaced by Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav, respectively. Besides, Jadeja was ruled out from the tournament as well.

What’s next for Suryakumar Yadav?

Reports has stated that Suryakumar Yadav has only been ruled out of the opening round of the Duleep Trophy. However, nothing has been talked about the severity of the injury and there could be a chance that he gets ruled out of the entirety of the tournament.

Suryakumar’s next outing with the Indian team is the Bangladesh’s T20I series. Until then, he does not have any further matches to play. Suryakumar isn’t part of India’s Test squad and his only Test came last year against Australia.

Having said that, Yadav could be seen in the later half of the Duleep Trophy, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
