Rishabh Pant was always expected to be sold for a huge amount in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction after he was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the auction. However, he set a new record as he became the costliest player in IPL history when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured him for 27 crore INR in the auction.
LSG were in the bidding war with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His former team Capitals also wanted to use the Right-To-Match card to secure him in the auction. However, LSG swooped in and continued to bid higher using the new rule that a team can bid higher once when the RTM is used, which led to DC backing off.
Pant missed IPL 2023 after he suffered a near-fatal car crash in December 2022 and missed one and half years of cricket due to injury. He made his comeback in IPL 2024 as the captain of DC. Now, he is expected to lead the LSG team in IPL 2025. However, let us know how much will Pant receive in actual after tax deductions.
Details of Rishabh Pant’s contract:
IPL auctions bind players to a three-year contract, where the amount a team bids for a player is their yearly salary for each season of that contract. For example, if a player is auctioned for INR 15 crore, they would receive that amount each year over the three-year term, totaling INR 45 crore, assuming they remain available to play.
For Pant specifically, after the Indian government takes approximately INR 8.1 crore in taxes from his IPL earnings, he ends up with a net salary of INR 18.9 crore for the year 2025. If Pant suffers an injury during the IPL and misses the rest of the tournament, then he can still receive the said salary. However, if he suffers an injury before the start of the tournament and has to miss it, then the franchise can buy another player to replace him.
However, if Pant or any other Indian player is ruled out of the entire IPL due to suffering an injury while playing for Team India, then he will receive the entire salary as per the insurance policy of BCCI.
