Shreyas Iyer breaks silence on his half-century against India C in Duleep Trophy

The Duleep Trophy 2024 is currently underway. India D captain and star India batter, Shreyas Iyer, scored a half-century against India C in the second innings of the match. Iyer did not get going in the first innings of the match. However, he scored 54 runs off 44 deliveries in his second essay.

Iyer was aggressive right from the start and looked to go for the aerial shots. His innings consisted of 9 boundaries and one six. Post his innings, he talked about his aggressive intent that was need at that stage of the game.

He felt that the India C bowlers bowled great line and lengths. Hence, he needed to attack them to disrupt their accuracy and bring the momentum back in India D’s favor. He wanted to put the pressure back on the bowlers and take his team’s score to a good total.

“It was necessary for me to show intent because their bowlers were bowling great, in the right areas and the ball was seaming as well. I just wanted to take the attack and see if we could get a decent total on board. When the ball got old, it was stopping a bit. I wanted to capitalize on my intent, but ya, I would take that fifty any day,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

Shreyas Iyer has had an inconsistent form in international cricket since the ODI World Cup in 2023. He has struggled very badly against the short ball and his recent form doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. There is no denying that International cricket has displayed many chinks in his armoury.

Moreover, he was dropped from the central contract at the start of the year for not playing in the Ranji Trophy semi-final for Mumbai. The Mumbai batter has also struggled with injury issues and he is looking to make a comeback to the red ball team for the home series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19.
