India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah recently spoke about the captaincy styles of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He has played under all three captains. He made his debut under Dhoni, went on to become a terrific all-format bowler under Kohli and is at his all time best under Rohit Sharma in IPL and Indian Cricket Team.
Bumrah praised Rohit Sharma’s captaincy style, noting that Rohit is unusual among captains for his empathy towards bowlers, even though he is primarily a batter. Bumrah highlighted that Rohit’s leadership is flexible and receptive to feedback, showing he values input from all players. This inclusive approach fosters a supportive environment, benefiting the team overall.
Bumrah said: “Rohit is one of the few captains who has empathy towards bowlers, despite being a batter. Rohit is not rigid; he is open to feedback.”
Bumrah praised MS Dhoni’s captaincy, saying that Dhoni quickly provided him with a sense of security. He highlighted that Dhoni relies heavily on his instincts rather than over-planning every detail. This approach, marked by trust in his gut feelings and minimal micromanagement, helped Bumrah feel more confident and supported on the field.
“MS gave me a lot of security quickly. He has a lot of faith in his instinct and doesn’t believe in over-planning,” he added.
Bumrah described Virat Kohli’s captaincy style as highly energetic and passionate. He noted that Kohli is very expressive and emotionally involved in the game. Even though Kohli is no longer the captain, Bumrah emphasized that Kohli remains a leader due to his strong presence and influence. Bumrah pointed out that leadership goes beyond just holding the captaincy post, as it involves contributions from all team members, not just one individual.
“Virat is energy-driven, passionate, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Now Virat is not the captain, but he is still a leader. Captaincy is a post, but a team is run by 11 people,” Bumrah spoke on Virat Kohli.
Jasprit Bumrah is currently the best-all format bowler in the world
Bumrah is, unarguably, India’s current best fast bowler. He is equally potent in all the three formats of the game. He can swing and seam the ball both sides and trouble the best of the batters with pace. Bumrah can hurt the batters with bouncers and even deceptive slower balls.
Bumrah has a potent yorker and is a dangerous death bowler. He is always a wicket-taker, not allowing the batters to score runs at any stage, be it in Test cricket or limited overs cricket.
He led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 win with 15 wickets to his name at an unbelievable economy rate of 4.17 and an average of less than 8.26. Courtesy of his sensational bowling, Bumrah won the Player Of The Tournament award.
