Team India suffered a crushing defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia by a margin of 3-1. They lost the fifth and final Test match of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground by six wickets. India set a target of 162 runs for the hosts to chase in their second innings. The Australian team achieved the target by losing just four wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler of the series with 32 wickets in his bag. He single-handedly kept India in the series and was the destroyer-in-chief for the Indians. However, he missed bowling in the second innings due to a back spasm, and that was a big dent to India’s chances of winning the final Test and making it 2-2 in the series.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back spasm and was not able to bowl in the second innings
The wicket at the SCG was the most favourable wicket for the fast bowlers in the series. At the end of the game, Bumrah lamented not being able to bowl in the second innings on a spicy SCG wicket. However, he talked about how he has to respect his body and can’t fight with it.
“It’s a little frustrating, but sometimes you’ve got to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. It’s a little disappointing in the end because I probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series, but that’s the way it is. Sometimes, you have to accept it and move forward,” Bumrah said after the game.
India were definitely a fast bowler short in the whole Test match and suffered a big blow when their main man was not fit to bowl in the second innings. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna had to share the workload in the final innings. However, it was always going to be tough, and the duo’s efforts were not enough to bring the win for the Indian Cricket Team.
India suffered a BGT loss after four series and were knocked out of the World Test Championship. Australia have qualified for the final and will face South Africa in that game at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
