Jasprit Bumrah reveals why he does not recommend youngsters to copy his bowling action

Jasprit Bumrah is, currently, the best bowler in international cricket across all formats of the game. He has a unique, unorthodox bowling action and can trouble the best of batters with his skills. However, he, recently, spoke about why he will not advise any of the youngsters to imitate his bowling action.

He recalled about how he was a fan of fast bowling in his younger days and learned through watching bowlers bowl, through television. He does not recommend the youngsters to copy his action when he watches them imitate his bowling. However, he is happy, content with his impact and the inspiration that he has provided to the youngsters.

“I don’t know how to react to that. But you know, when I was a kid, I used to. I was a fan of fast bowling. I learned through watching the television. I fell in love with the sport by that. Now, sometimes when I see children trying to copy my action, I don’t recommend it. But you know, sometimes it is what it is. You get inspired by something and you try and find your own way. I’m very happy to create an impact whenever I can,” Jasprit Bumrah told JioCinema.

Bumrah is currently engaged in the first Test match between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. He made his return back in international cricket after a break following his Man of the Tournament performance in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024. He was sensational in the first innings and picked up a 4-wicket haul.

He talked about how the wicket in Chennai wasn’t helping him when he was bowling on good lengths. So, he opted to try something new as he feels that a good bowler should experiment if he does not gets assistance from the wicket. So, he used the plans and strategies from his experience playing domestic cricket.

“I had no other option because when I was bowling on length, it wasn’t helping me. Additionally, the ball wasn’t reversing, so I needed to try something new. As a bowler, you have to experiment when the wicket isn’t assisting you, so I reverted to the strategies I used in domestic cricket. Today, that approach proved effective and really helped me,” Bumrah said.
