Recently, the Head Coach of England’s Test team, Brendon McCullum, was appointed as the Head Coach of England’s limited overs team. England’s white ball captain has broken silence on his relationship with McCullum.
Buttler feels that he has a very good relationship with McCullum but wants to spend more time with him. He wants to get into cricket discussions with McCullum and he feels that the head coach will improve him as England’s captain.
“I have a bit of a relationship with Baz (Brendon McCullum) but I’m looking forward to spending more time with him. I’m looking forward to digging into the cricket side of things. He will help me so much as a captain,” Buttler told Sky Sports.

Buttler also feels that his and McCullum’s nature are same. They follow the same approach and he wants that his partnership with McCullum becomes the most enjoyable part of his cricket career. Buttler has played a lot of cricket for England, has gained a lot of knowledge and experience. Buttler wants to get ready for the two big ICC events coming soon.
“We’re similar in the way we see the game but just getting to spend time with him and opening my eyes to certain things or the other way around. For me, I want this to be the most enjoyable part of my career. I’ve played for a decent amount of time now so maybe a shift in the goalposts of what you really want to achieve and for me that’s helping guys become what they can be and building towards two big events later on,” he further added.
England’s white-ball performances under Buttler haven’t been that great. His side got knocked out of the group stage in the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023 and then lost the semi final against India in the semi final of the T20 World Cup 2024.
