"One of us had played little longer", KL Rahul repents about the lost IPL 2016 final along with Virat Kohli

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended on the disappointing side after coming so close to the IPL title in 2016. It has been definitely a hard blow for the then RCB captain, Virat Kohli. Now, KL Rahul who was part of the IPL 2016 final for RCB along with Kohli opened up on the heartbreaking loss in the 2016 final.

Rahul said that he has discussed about the dreadful night with Kohli multiple times in the last five to six years. He feels that if either of him or Kohli would have stayed a little longer till the end, RCB would have ended up on the winning side. The Karnataka man said that the title win could have been fairytale given that they came back from the bottom of the points table.

“Me & Virat – The last 5 to 6 years we have spoken about the IPL 2016 final so many times – One of us had played little longer and we would have won the game, that year was very very special – it would have been a fairy tale to be right at bottom & to win the title at Chinnaswamy – there wouldn’t have been a better story or better ending but unfortunately that didint happen for us,” Rahul said to Star Sports.

RCB were chasing 209 against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Kohli had a magical tournament with the bat in that season and was looking set to get his side past the winning line and Chris Gayle was also breathing fire with the bat. However, as soon as Gayle and Kohli were dismissed, the team team kept on losing consistent wickets and finally lost the match by eight runs.

Meanwhile, Rahul has been released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Reports stated that all was not well between him and the franchise owner, Sanjiv Goenka. RCB will be looking to get him yet again in the auction and pair him back with Kohli, who has been yet again retained by the franchise.
