Former Australian player, Ricky Ponting backs and supports Jasprit Bumrah’s potential as a captain during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
He feels Bumrah is likely to make good use of the experienced players in the squad, drawing on their knowledge and skills to improve the teamโs performance. His approach could encourage teamwork and help the senior players play a key role in important decisions and team support.
As per reports, Rohit Sharma is not available for the first test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. It is assumed that he has pull out of the first test, stating personal reasons, but no confirmation has been done yet. In the absence of Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah would be elected as the captain for team India.
He stated, โYeah, that (captaincy) is probably the hardest thing for him,โ Ponting said on the ICC Review. โI think that was always the question on Pat Cummins when he became the Australian Test captain as well. How much is he going to bowl himself? Is he going to bowl himself too much? Is he not going to bowl himself enough?
Ricky trusts that Jaspritโs experience will help him know when to bowl and manage his spells effectively. He stated that the experience present in the team would help Bumrah flourish more in leadership. As a captain, itโs important to rely on experienced teammates and ask for advice when needed because, no matter how much we know, we wonโt always have the right answers.
โGuys like that tend to thrive on the extra pressure and the responsibility,โ said Ponting. โHe’s always been the leader of the attack for a long time anyway. Whether that’s red ball, T20 or ODIs, he’s the main man.โ Australian expert concluded.
