Michael Vaughan trolls Indian fans and Virat Kohli comparing Kohli and Joe Root's Test stats

Former England Test captain, Joe Root, is batting like dream in Test cricket, currently. He is scoring hundreds for fun and leading the fab 4 by miles. Root notched up his 33rd Test century in the second Test match against Sri Lanka at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Former England Captain, Michael Vaughan, tried to take a dig at Indian fans and Virat Kohli, comparing Kohli and Root’s Test stats on X.

Kohli has played 191 innings in Test cricket and has scored 8848 runs at an average of 49.15 with 29 hundreds and 30 half-centuries. On the other hand, Root has played 264 innings in Test cricket with 12274 runs at an average of 50.72, including 33 hundreds and 64 half-centuries.

Joe Root paid his homage to Graham Thorpe

After scoring his 33rd Test Hundred, Root dedicated his century to his batting mentor, Graham Thorpe, who passed away at the age of 55. He pointed to the sky on the memory of him. Root offered his homage to the senior players, coaches, mentors, and Thorpe, who helped him attain this feat in Test cricket.

“I’ve been very lucky to work with a lot of people, whether it be senior players, coaches, mentors, and Thorpey was one of those people that offered me so much,” Root said, after his 143 runs innings against Sri Lanka.

Root helped England recover as they racked up 358/7 at the end of the first day at Lord’s. He smashed his hundred in 162 balls, consisting of 13 fours. He eventually was dismissed on 143 runs off 206 deliveries.

Root has been piling on runs consistently in Test cricket over the last 4 years. He has gone past each of his contemporaries in Test cricket: Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli. Root has been the most consistent batter in this format and is now being labelled as the one who will go on to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the most runs in Test cricket, i.e., 15,921 runs.

If he continues to bat like this and play for 4-5 years more, he will certainly be very close of breaking Tendulkar’s record in Test cricket.
