Australian speedster and legendary 2-times World Cup-winning bowler, Mitchell Starc, recently, opened up on his competitive bond with Indian great Virat Kohli.
The Indian star is often referred to as the ‘King’ of world cricket, as he emerged as the greatest among modern cricketers. Starc, recently, claimed to have immense pleasure in his “good battles” on the field.
Notably, Starc has dismissed Virat Kohli four times in Test cricket in the past. Border-Gavaskar Trophy is knocking at the doorstep and will be the most anticipated tournament, which will be played from the 22nd of November.
“I enjoy my battles with Virat Kohli just because we’ve played a lot of cricket against one another. I always have some good battles. I’ve obviously got him once or twice and he’s no doubt scored a fair few runs against me. So, it’s always a good contest and one we both enjoy.” said Starc to Star Sports.
Kohli often emerges as the man with the upper hand against Starc. He had a scintillating record against the bowler with 236 runs at an average of 59 against him in Tests.
Virat Kohli has delivered splendid performance in Australia in Test cricket. Australia has been the most successful for him in Tests than any other nation like England or South Africa. Kohli scored 1352 runs, averaging 54.08, while Starc has picked 217 wickets in home conditions in just 50 Tests.
What’s next for Mitchell Starc?
The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to be held in the month of November as the team travel to Australia for a five-match iconic Test series, which also includes the iconic Boxing Day Test as well.
Legendary Aussie pacer, Mitchell Starc will be seen representing Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in November. However, before that, the lanky pacer will be seen back in action with the Aussies in the ODI series against England. Starc will, once again, spearhead the Australian pace attack alongside Josh Hazlewood.
Mitchell Starc has been Australia’s finest bowler of this generation, having surpassed the likes of Mitchell Johnson for most Test wickets. Starc has an exemplary record in ODIs. He has been Australia’s highest wicket-taker in World Cups since 2015 was awarded the Player of the Tournament back in 2015.
However, this BGT is also vital for greats like Smith and Kohli as both these players would look to re-establish themselves at the top of the Fab 4. Joe Root currently has shown the best of form as he has smacked 34 hundreds and is now placed at the top of the fab four. Meanwhile, Steve Smith lies second with 32 tons and Virat at fourth with 29 hundreds.
