Mohammed Shami has been one of the standout fast bowlers for India and world cricket in his career. He has recently made headlines after making his comeback to cricket after 360 days.
Shami featured in the Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh and picked up four wickets. The selectors are keeping an eye on his fitness as India gear up for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting on November 22.
Meanwhile, the star pacer has landed in some controversy after an image of his driving license has gone viral which shows that he is actually 42 years old and not 34 years old.
An X user has posted an image which is allegedly Shami’s driving license. The document shows that Shami’s birth year as 1982. However, we should not jump in to conclusions without collecting any proper evidence.

Shami had to go through a lot of emotional and physical trouble in the last few years. His ex-wife put an accusation of domestic violence and match-fixing on the star pacer. Also, he was attacked brutally after India lost the 2021 T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Dubai by 10 wickets. However, BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit declared that he was not involved in any sort of match fixing.
Shami was out of the game since the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad against Australia which India lost. The Bengal fast bowler scalped 24 wickets in the tournament but suffered an injury. He underwent Achilles tendon surgery in February of 2024 and then recently made his comeback in the Ranji Trophy.
Shami has played 64 Test matches in his career so far, has scalped 229 wickets at an average of 27.71 with six five-wicket hauls. In 101 ODIs, Shami has picked up 195 wickets at ana verage of 2.68 and an economy rate of 5.56. The fast bowler has five five-wicket hauls. He has also played 23 T20Is, has picked up 24 wickets at an average of 29.62 and an economy rate of 8.94.
