Swashbuckling West Indies batter, Nicholas Pooran, was at his sensational best in the 27th match of The hundred Mens Competition 2024 at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday. He played a superb innings of 66 off just 33 balls against Manchester Originals. However, the highlight of his innings was a 113-metre six that went out of the Emirates Old Trafford ground in Manchester.
On the 74th ball of the innings, Scott Currie bowled a fuller delivery on the leg stump. Pooran went back deep inside his crease and smashed the ball over deep mid-wicket boundary for a mighty six. The commentators were left shocked as the ball went out of the ground for a colossal 113-metre six.
The video of that particular shot has been round the rounds on social media, since. You can watch it here:
Nicholas Pooran took Northern Superchargers to seven-wicket win
In pursuit of a 153-run target, the Northern Superchargers were at dire straits at one stage at 29-2 in 36 deliveries. However, the arrival of Nicholas Pooran turned things around completely.
The southpaw put on an exhibition of sixes and put the pressure back on to the opposition. The West Indian shared a 56-run partnership with Harry Brook for the third wicket. Brook got out after playing a handy knock of 43 runs in 26 balls but Pooran continued his fireworks at the other end.
Nicholas Pooran and Adam Hose, latter, shared an unbeaten 71-run stand to guide the team home in 97 balls. Adam Hose also played a crucial knock of 27 runs off 14 balls.
Earlier, Superchargers won the toss and elected to bowl first. Phil Salt played a sensational knock of 61 from 28 balls to help Manchester Originals post a total of 152 runs in 100 balls.
Reflecting on his knock in the post match presentation, here’s what Nicolas Pooran said:
“It was one of my better innings, it’s a new format, but happy that I could contribute. [on the 113m six] I was surprised, that ball went up so high. I am happy that I could get the win, hopefully we can get this result again. You got to peak at the right time, hope we are getting there at the right time,”
With that win, Northern Superchargers have now moved to third spot on the points table with four wins in seven matches. Manchester Originals, meanwhile, have suffered their sixth defeat and find themselves at second from bottom of the ladder.
