Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who was a part of Pakistan’s dressing room as the head coach, stepped down from the role with immediate effect. He was a part of the team for a period of around 6 months.

It is found out that Gary Kirsten was disappointed by recent board-imposed restrictions that reduced coaches’ selection authority. The board of selection consists of Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema. The coach and captain are not involved in the squad selection process, which frustrated Kirsten.

Under Kirsten’s guidance, Pakistan suffered a T20I series defeat to England and had a horrifying T20 World Cup, losing to first-timer United States. The South African was yet to manage the team in an ODI match.

Former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie has been announced as his replacement for the head coach position of Pakistan cricket team with immediate effect. He will join the Pakistan cricket team for their tour of Australia, starting November 4.

The Pakistan Cricket Board tweeted,

“The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation, which was accepted”.

Apart from the change in coach, PCB also announced Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team.
