PCB set to announce Muhammad Rizwan as the captain in all formats

Pakistan Cricket Team is currently the most talked about team in the world. Now, recent reports state that Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper-batter of Pakistan, is set to replace Babar Azam as the captain of the team in white ball cricket.

Azam had to step down from captaincy of all formats after Pakistan performed poorly in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India and were knocked out of the group stage.

Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the T20I captain after the ODI World Cup and Shan Masood as the Test captain. However, just after a series, Afridi was replaced and Azam was once again made the captain of the white-ball team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

Pakistan performed poorly yet again as they were knocked out of the group stage after losing to India and USA. Babar has struggled with the bat as well having not scored a century since the opening match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal. There were even reports of feud between Azam and Afridi.

Recently, Pakistan suffered a humiliating loss, having lost the home series against Bangladesh by 2-0 margin. Babar failed with the bat yet again and his exploits in the red ball format have been even more disappointing.

Geo news reveals that PCB are looking to appoint Rizwan as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. So, even Shan Masood might be sacked as the Test captain.

The report also says that Babar has himself conveyed the decision and PCB is set to announce the decision to appoint the new captain ahead of the start of the Australia series on November 4. It remains to be seen if the new captain can mend the issue of the Men In Green and start a new transformative era in Pakistan cricket.
