Star Indian batter, Rinku Singh is mostly in the news for his big sixes or his often snub from the teams, either internationally or domestically.
India’s T20I batter has recently opened up on his recent snub from the Duleep Trophy teams. The domestic tournament has been assigned a major role this time as even the great international players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in the Duleep trophy.
However, the recent move from BCCI over Rinku’s snub has clearly indicated that the player will not be considered for the red ball format soon.
Rinku was very humble in saying that he did not make efforts worth selection for the Duleep trophy and also stated that he should perform better in order to not face snubs further in the future.
“Nothing…I didn’t perform that well (in the domestic season). I didn’t play many matches in the Ranji Trophy…I played 2-3 matches. I wasn’t selected because I didn’t play that well. I might get selected for next-round matches,” Rinku Singh said in an interview with SportsTak.
An insight into Rinku’s career so far
The UP batter has an impressive record in the format, as he has scored 3173 runs in 47 appearances for the side averaging over 50. However, his Ranji season was short-lived, last season.
Rinku has scored 418 runs for India in the shortest format of the game and had also featured for India in the ODI format. However, the talented finisher, who has often been named the ideal lower-order batsman, has drawn comparisons with the great MS Dhoni.
Rinku travelled with India for the England series last time but is yet to make his debut in the longest format. However, with the recent snub, his chances to make it into India’s Test team have been reduced.
With his low price in the IPL as per his standards and his immense potential as a finisher, the Kolkata Knight Riders might look to retain him. But with the mega-auction in sight and also sighting his weak patch, last season, the KKR might part ways with the dynamite player and many IPL franchises would look to rope him in.
However, Rinku has expressed his dream to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore alongside the great Virat Kohli, a dream which seems obvious to many youngsters in India.
