In a latest turn of events, BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah has become the new ICC chairman, unopposed. With that, he has become the youngest ever candidate to get this post at the age of 35. Shah expressed his humbleness on getting appointed for this post.
“I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council,” Shah stated on his appointment.
He also stated that he wants to work with the ICC team and all the boards to make cricket even more popular globally and to take the sport forward. He also reiterated that the board has to focus on all the three formats and also about the introduction of new technologies. He wants to make cricket even popular.
“I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket. We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before,” Shah said.

Jay Shah stressed on adopting new thinking and modernize cricket more than ever. The BCCI secretary also talked about the introduction of cricket in the LA Olympics in 2028 and talked about how the introduction of cricket in the Olympics will take cricket forward and revolutionize it.
“While we will build on the valuable lessons learned, we must also embrace fresh thinking and innovation to elevate the love for cricket worldwide. The inclusion of our sport in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a significant inflection point for the growth of cricket, and I am confident that it will drive the sport forward in unprecedented ways,” he added.
Earlier reports came out that Shah will be appointed as the ICC chairman, soon. The top cricket boards like the Australian Cricket Board and the England and Wales Cricket Board had no issues in Shah becoming the ICC chairman. Now, all other boards have approved it and hence the decision was formally announced by the ICC.
