The former Delhi Capitals’ captain was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction due to the part of their strategic team overhaul. The move marks a significant change for the team, which had relied heavily on his leadership and explosive batting in recent seasons.
Lucknow Super Giants, who released captain KL Rahul, bought the aggressive wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking price of INR 27 crore. The franchise owners are considering the Indian cricketer as a potential captain to strengthen the team’s leadership and build on the legacy of the franchise, aiming for greater success in the upcoming seasons.
It was a hard-fought bidding war between the Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants, which was won by the Lucknow-based franchise. LSG won the last bid at the price of INR 20.75 crore, but the right-to-match card was exercised by Pant’s former franchise, Delhi Capitals. The RTM led to the increase in the price for the young lad, being the bid of INR 27 crore.
Delhi Capitals replaced Rishabh Pant with Lucknow Super Giants’ former skipper KL Rahul for a minimal price of INR 14 crore. Both of the teams are looking forward to starting a new era with both of the new captains.
As per the BCCI’s central contract, Rishabh Pant is enrolled in the Grade B contract list, which makes him earn Rs 3 crore annually. The IPL and BCCI contracts of Rishabh Pant makes him the highest-paid Indian cricketer.
LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka stated about Rishabh Pant, “It is about somebody who brings dynamism, a never-say-die attitude. The very fact that he recovered from a near-fatal accident and came back to top form shows his resilience and determination. That is the kind of attitude we want. We want people who have an appetite to win and have a track record of winning.”
