Rishabh Pant equals MS Dhoni's record in Test cricket

India and Bangladesh are facing off against each other in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Riding on a century from Ravichandran Ashwin and 86 from Ravindra Jadeja, India posted 376 runs in their first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 149 runs in the second innings. On Day 3, India ended with 287/4 in their second essay before declaring the innings, setting Bangladesh a target of 515 runs to win the Test.

Rishabh Pant, who made his comeback in red back cricket after the injury that he suffered due to car crash in December 2022, smashed 109 runs off 128 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes.

With that ton, Pant also equaled the record of most centuries by an Indian wicket-keeper, earlier held by former India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. It is worth mentioning that Rishabh Pant returned to red ball cricket after a gap of 635 days.

Pant smashed his 6th Test century on Saturday and, with that, equaled the number of centuries scored by MS Dhoni in Test cricket. Both of them now have six centuries to their name in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill also brought up his fifth Test century on day three of the Test match. Earlier, he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings.

Pant forged a 167-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who came into bat at number 3 during the innings. Meanwhile, Bangladesh scored 158 runs for the loss of four wickets before bad light stopped play on day three.

Bangladesh need 357 runs to win the Test, while India need six wickets. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is fighting it out, unbeaten on 51 off 60 balls. Shakib Al Hasan is also out in the middle with 5 runs off 14 balls.
