The ICC has recently announced their decision to appoint the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah as the Chairman. Shah has been elected unopposed and is the youngest candidate to take this post at the age of 25. Under Shah, the BCCI has seen tremendous profits and has grown on to become the richest cricket board in the world. He will now be expected to do the same for ICC and take cricket forward.
Wishes have been flowing in for Shah since the time he has been appointed as the Chairman of the ICC. Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, also took to ‘X’ to congratulate Shah.
Tendulkar stated that Shah is a good administrator and has been enthusiastic while having the drive to do good for the game. He also lauded Shah for his incredible tenure as the Secretary of the BCCI, for prioritising both men’s and women’s cricket.
“Being enthusiastic and having the drive to do something good for cricket are essential qualities for a cricket administrator. Jay Shah displayed these traits wonderfully during his stint as BCCI secretary. His endeavors towards prioritizing both womenโs cricket and menโs cricket have made BCCI a pioneer that other boards can follow,” Tendulkar wrote on his ‘X’ handle.
Jay Shah thanked everyone for the congratulatory wishes
After being appointed a the Chairman of the ICC, Shah has thanked Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, the current head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and many others for their wishes. Shah replied to all the wishes that he received on X from the cricket fraternity. An ICC Chairman can serve three tenures each of two years. Greg Barclay, who was the Chairman from 2020, did not want to serve the third term and Shah will be replacing him for the post.
Shah will be the fifth person from India after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar to serve as the Chairman of the ICC. He has promised for more incredible changes, revolutionizing the game of cricket by making it more popular and focusing on the LA 2028 Olympics.
