The Duleep Trophy has started and India A is facing India B in the opening match of the tournament. Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, playing for India B got out for just 7 runs in the opening match. India B were asked to bat first and were put on the backfoot, straightaway. Pant had to come in to bat to take care of the innings. However, he was not successful and lost his wicket too.
Akash Deep took Pant’s wicket in the 36th over of the innings. Pant wanted to go over the top straight down the ground, however, he did not connect it properly. Shubman Gill ran back, dived and took a sensational catch to dismiss Pant. Gill was seen in some pain after falling down, however, it wasn’t too serious.

Rishabh Pant set to return to red-ball cricket with Bangladesh series
Rishabh Pant made his comeback to cricket through IPL 2024 after staying away from the game for one and half years due to the near fatal car crash that he suffered in December 2022. Pant sustained multiple injuries, including cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, and abrasions on his back. He was part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup that the team won. However, he was not among the best of touches.

Pant has had a sensational career in red ball cricket before his injury. He is aiming to make his comeback in red ball cricket in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19.
It is very important for Pant to regain his confidence and form given that India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series in Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the end of the year 2024. Pant was superb in the last Test series in Australia and played an integral part in India’s win in the series.
