Former India captain and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, has heaped praise on India’s young wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant and called him as one of India’s best Test batter. He approved BCCI’s decision to bringing back Pant in the Test squad for the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
Ganguly feels that Pant has the opportunity to become an all-time great Test batter if he continues to perform in the way that he has been doing. However, the former Indian captain felt that Pant needs to get better in the limited-overs format. However, he backed him to deliver for India in the white-ball format with the talent that he possesses.
“I consider Rishabh Pant one of India’s best Test batsmen. I’m not surprised that he’s back in the side, and he will continue to play for India in Tests. He will be an all-time great in Tests if he keeps performing like this. For me, he needs to get better in the shorter formats. With the talent he has, I’m sure with time, he will become one of the best,” Ganguly said while talking to the press in Kolkata.
Rishabh Pant has delivered in Test cricket
Pant has been a sensational batter for India in Test cricket and has played some match winning innings in the toughest of times. He made his comeback to cricket in IPL 2024 after he suffered a car accident in December 2022. He was part of the T20 World Cup winning squad in 2024 but was not seen in the best of touch.
Pant scored a half-century in the second innings of the Duleep Trophy match between India A and India B. So, he looks to be back in touch before he takes on the Bangladeshi bowlers in Chennai. India needs Pant to delivery given that they have to travel to Australia and England for a 5-match Test series each.
