Indian Cricket Team under Rohit Sharma has already travelled to Australia and are gearing up for the most important series in the calendar year: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. The five-match Test series will kickstart on November 20 in Perth. India will need their young players like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant to fire with the bat in the Test series.
Indian Test team is definitely going through a transition with their veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the twilight of their careers. The responsibility is shifting to the next-generation players like Gill and Pant. Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has said that Pant has always been a proven performer in Test cricket in overseas conditions and hence the Indian batting performance in Australia will revolve around him. He feels that Pant and Gill will emerge as a completely different player at the end of the upcoming five-match Test series in Australia.
“I donโt want to get into the talks of transition since I am not privy to what is happening in the system. If you talk about the next generation, then there is already Rishabh Pant who is a proven performer in overseas conditions for some years now. I believe a lot will revolve around him. I have a feeling Shubman Gill and Pant can go to the next level as senior batters at the end of the series,” Ganguly told the Times of India.
Sourav Ganguly rates Yashasvi Jaiswal very highly
Ganguly feels that there is not much of an issue with the batting line-up which comprises of the likes of Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill, Kohli, KL Rahul and Pant. They have cricket together for the Indian team for a long time. The Prince Of Kolkata has also rated Yashasvi Jaiswal highly.
Indian batters have been under tremendous pressure after the 3-0 whitewash that they suffered at home against New Zealand. It was their first Test series loss at home since 2012 and also the first whitewash suffered in a Test series at home since the time they started playing Test cricket. Indian batters had failed to perform in the series and are hence facing the pressure as they need to win atleast four Test matches to qualify for the WTC final.
