The Mumbai Indians already have the likes of Rohit Sharma, current Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and pace bowling sensation, Jasprit Bumrah.
The IPL committee has announced that despite different retention slabs fixed for retention, they can distribute the amount of 75 crores among their five players who can be likely retained.
It should be assumed that Mumbai Indians would look to retain skipper Pandya for a whopping 18 crores, Suryakumar Yadav with a similar INR 18 crores and 14 crores for Jasprit Bumrah, which currently seems the most likely order of retention slabs for the 5-time Champions.
Three possible Retentions to be made by the Mumbai Indians:
3. Jasprit Bumrah – Mumbai might look to hand retention to the ace pacer owing to his superior fast bowling skills. Bumrah is MI’s second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL.
2. Suryakumar Yadav – MI batter Suryakumar Yadav has also featured in the list of retained players. SKY is currently the best-ranked T20I batter for India and arguably one of the finest in the world.
1. Hardik Pandya – Ace Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya who began his IPL journey with the Mumbai Indians, returned to the side after being brought back to the team as their skipper in 2024 after his successful campaigns with the Gujarat Titans. Pandya is again set to resume his role as a skipper of the MI side.
Mumbai Indians are not to part ways with Rohit Sharma, suggest reports
One of India’s most recognised media reporters, Express Sports, has reportedly claimed that the Mumbai Indians are not to part ways with the veteran skipper Rohit Sharma alongside Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.
Previous speculations claimed that the World Cup-winning Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will leave the Mumbai Indians and come to the auction for the first time, since 2011. This created a huge buzz for the highly anticipated IPL mega-auction.
However, now the MI veteran, who has not only been an exemplary skipper but also a standout contributor with the bat, is likely to be retained. Alongside the skipper, the MI team is also likely to retain three other World Cup winners in their side.
The Mumbai Indians are well aware of the high value and demand of these players and are hence looking to retain the likes of all these 4 players. This seems amazing as they have a power-packed team despite not retaining any overseas players.
However, Mumbai Indians are likely to part ways with Ishan Kishan, their star wk-batter who was bought at a whopping price back in the last mega-auction of 2022. However, Tilak Varma might be brought back into the side using the Right to Match card for the Mumbai Indians.
