Morne Morkel

After India appointed Morne Morkel as the bowling coach of the Indian team, an old video of India’s current head coach against the South African pacer from their playing days has resurfaced.

The clip shows an intense battle between Gautam Gambhir, India’s head coach, and Morne Morkel, the protea, who was the very sensation of pace bowling during his playing days.

The video captures a fiery spell by Morkel under favourable conditions, a track on which he has been consistent in troubling many Indian batters, including Gambhir.

In the video, Morne Morkel is shown bowling some unplayable lines and lengths to Gambhir, which makes the batter tremble till the time he stays at the crease.

He did not restrict only to that, as Morkel takes the onslaught to the next level. He starts pulling the length back and bowls a flurry of short-length deliveries and accurate bouncers. India’s left-hand batter had no clue of the deliveries and kept missing them, only to edge a rising bouncer with his glove.

However, Gambhir survived as the umpire remained indifferent. After this, Morkel was also seen having a heated exchange of words with the batter, who is known in World cricket for his aggression.

Morkel and Gambhir’s career playing and coaching alongside

Though Gautam Gambhir and Morne Morkel have always shared intense rivalry on the field, these two have also seen immediate success together as players.

Morkel played under Gambhir’s captaincy in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders and relished ample success. They also won the trophy for the first time in 2012.

The two later served together as the coaches of the LSG side, and both led the team to a high-standard outing in the season. It was during his appointment as the Team India head coach that Gambhir had made a demand to include Morkel as their bowling coach.

The two who have had massive success being allies are, once again, brought under one shade.
