Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, the Indian team’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir along with the other members in the dressing room were elated as Akash Deep hit a boundary to save India from follow-on in the third Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane. It was the heroic partnership from Jasprit Bumrah and Deep that saved the Indian team from the follow on.
When the play was called off at the end of Day 4 due to bad light, Deep and Bumrah had stitched together a 39-run partnership for the 10th wicket. Both these pacers batted with grit and determination to take India past the 246-run mark, which was the score at or below which Australia could have enforced the follow-on. Their partnership made sure that India ended Day 4 at 252/9.

India have saved the follow-on in the third Test at the Gabba
The whole Test match has been affected by rain and bad weather. Hence, a significant amount of play has been lost. The major way in which Australia could have won this Test match was enforcing the follow-on. However, the partnership of Bumrah and Deep has made sure that India could go on to draw the Test match and go on to the MCG Test at 1-1.
There is more bad weather forecast on Day 5 of the Test match as India still trail by 193 runs. On the second ball of the 75th over, Pat Cummins bowled one short and wide to Deep, and he tried to stay leg side of the ball and play the cut shot. He got a thick outside edge which flew over the slip cordon for a boundary. On the fourth ball of the over, Cummins bowled one full on the off-stump to Deep, and he smashed it over the cow-corner for a huge six. The play was then called off one ball later due to bad light.
Meanwhile, coming to India’s innings, KL Rahul was the stand-out performer with 84 runs off 139 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja, who was playing his first Test match in this tour scored 77 runs off 123 balls.
