Twitter reacts as Joe Root goes past Alastair Cook to become England's leading run scorer in Test cricket

Pakistan are currently playing against England in the first Test match of the series in Multan. England great, Joe Root, went past another England great, Alastair Cook, to become England’s leading run scorer in Test cricket history during his innings in Multan.

Root surpassed Cook’s 12,472 runs in just 147 Tests matches, while Cook took 161 Test matches to reach this figure. Root made his Test debut during the 2012 tour of India and has already scored 34 centuries in Test cricket.

He is set to score yet another century in the ongoing Multan Test match against Pakistan. Rahul Dravid (13288), Jacques Kallis (13289), Ricky Ponting (13378) and Sachin Tendulkar (15921)ย are ahead of Root in the list of leading run getters in Test cricket history.

The moment Root went past the tally of Alastair Cook, his teammates in the dressing room stood up and applauded the heroic efforts. Root also took a moment to soak in his achievement.
