Umran Malik, the fast bowler from Jammu has recently gone unsold in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The fast bowler, who can consistently clock speeds of over 150kmph, was once a hot prospect in the auction. However, he did not attract any buyers in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025.
In the IPL 2022 mega auction, his base price was Rs 4 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him up for his base price. However, in the IPL 2025 mega auction, he was not even picked up by any team for his base price of Rs 75 Lakh. He scalped 22 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2022 and made headlines as the one to watch out for the future.
However, he could not replicate his performances in the next two seasons. He has played 26 matches in IPL, picking 29 wickets at an average of 26.62 and at an economy rate of 9.4.
Fans are in utter shocking after knowing the development. Here’s a look at some of the reactions:

Umran Malik was a promising talent in the IPL
Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, his journey from a fruit seller’s son to an international cricketer is inspiring. Malik’s raw talent was evident when he bowled at speeds exceeding 150 kmph during the IPL, drawing comparisons to legendary fast bowlers.
His bowling action is noted for its smoothness, allowing him to deliver balls with considerable speed and minimal effort, which is crucial for maintaining pace over long spells.
Cricket experts like Dale Steyn and Virat Kohli have praised his potential, highlighting his ability to intimidate batsmen with his pace. Despite his speed, he has areas to improve, particularly in terms of consistency and accuracy.
His dedication to cricket is apparent; he dropped out of high school to focus on his career, showing a single-minded pursuit of his cricketing dreams. However, his journey also reflects the challenges of nurturing raw talent into a world-class performer, as seen by his fluctuating form in recent times.
