Virat Kohli, the Indian star batter, has finally come out of his poor run of form in Test cricket and has smashed his 30th Test hundred and his 81st international century. He remained not-out on 100 runs off 143 deliveries as Jasprit Bumrah, India’s stand-in captain, for this Test match declared the innings on 487-6, setting a target of 534 runs for Australia to chase down to win this Test match.

Kohli was struggling with his form in the whites and his batting average had plummeted below 48 until this inning. Kohli has ended up scoring just 93 runs in 6 innings against New Zealand in the home series when India were whitewashed 3-0 at home.

This was their first Test series loss at home and first whitewash suffered in a home Test series since they started playing Test cricket. Kohli was severely criticised and reports stated that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 was going to be the last Test series for the former Indian captain unless he performs. Fans have reacted to Kohli’s century in Perth.

Kohli failed to perform in the first innings as he was out for just five runs. He was standing outside the crease at a moment when the ball was bouncing off the wicket in Perth. He failed to negate one rising delivery from Josh Hazlewood and edged it. However, he rectified his technique in the second innings and showed immense application to finally make it count.

Meanwhile, with two and half days left, Australia are up against the wall in the fourth innings. The pitch is showing variable bounce due to the cracks getting opened up. It is going to be a real testing time for the Aussie batters and it all seems like India are going to take the 1-0 lead in the series.
