India’s rising star Tilak Varma scored a sensational century in the Duleep Trophy match against India D on Saturday. He played an unbeaten knock of 111 runs in 193 balls, steering India A to a pretty handsome score of 380 for 3 before declaring the innings.
The Andhra batter, Tilak Varma, was brought into Team A for the Duleep Trophy round 2 clash, and he delivered in the second innings with a commendable hundred, reaching the milestone in 177 balls.
Coming from an injury, Tilak failed to perform in the first innings. However, after a promising start from their openers, Varma batted alongside Pratham Singh, who scored his maiden Duleep Trophy hundred in the second innings.
Tilak went on to add to his pile of first-class hundreds as he took his team to 380/3, remaining not out for 111*, thus setting a target of 488 in front of Team India D, with two days of the game remaining.
Tilak’s fans have come to his praise on this occasion, as one coins him as the future of Indian cricket.
Will Tilak Varma be retained by MI ahead of IPL 2025?
Tilak Varma has played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League since he made his debut for the side, as a 19-year-old cricketer, in 2022. He batted at different positions in the IPL 2024 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya but still finished at the second highest run-getter for MI, only behind Rohit Sharma.
Tilak can also be seen often rolling his hand in the Indian Premier League. Verma made his T20I debut for India against the West Indies in 2023, where he scored successive fifties as well. He was also brought into the ODI team against Bangladesh, the same year.
Though under Gambhir, he has not yet been considered for the Indian T20I side. After recovering from injury, he has now made his comeback in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
The Mumbai Indians might consider retaining him as he will provide the solidity in the middle order. And with more such knocks, Tilak Varma is also putting his case forward for the team India selection.
