Kohli was an integral part of India’s squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and opened the innings with the captain, Rohit Sharma. He struggled to score runs throughout the whole tournament. However, as always, the 35-year-old stepped up on the day of the final when India were under pressure.

From 34-3, he guided India to a total of 176 runs in their 20 overs through a solid innings of 76 runs. The result was that India went on to win the T20 World Cup after 17 years and an ICC trophy after 11 years.

After the tournament, he along with Sharma, announced their retirement from T20Is, passing on the baton to the youngsters. He clearly stated that he had made up his mind before the World Cup itself and the decision would have stayed the same even if India had lost the final. This was Kohli’s first T20 World Cup trophy.

After a break of a month, Kohli came back to feature in the ODI series against Sri Lanka under new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. However, he had a series to forget as he got out to the spinners LBW in all the three innings without any notable score as India suffered a 2-0 defeat.

After the series, he returned back to London just like he did after the T20 World Cup win. He will be seen back in action during the test series against Bangladesh in September. As per some recent reports, Kohli has decided to settle in London with his family after his career. He wants to lead a private life away from the hustle and bustle which would not be possible back in India due to the stardom and the popularity that he has.
