Virender Sehwag wishes Shikhar Dhawan after his retirement

Veteran Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan, has announced his retirement from domestic and international cricket. Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag, has wished him well after his retirement announcement.

Sehwag congratulated Dhawan and said that from the time Dhawan replaced him in Mohali, he has gone from strength to strength and never looked back. Sehwag gave his best wishes to Dhawan and wished him well for the future.

Sehwag tweeted: “Badhaai ho Shikkhi. Ever since the time you replaced me in Mohali, you didn’t look back and some top performances over the years. May you continue to have fun and live life to the fullest. Very best wishes always.”

Shikhar Dhawan – A standout performer in ODI cricket and ICC tournaments

Dhawan led the Punjab Kings in April 2024 and played his last competitive game in that tournament. He has scored 24 centuries in international cricket.

While announcing his retirement in a video, Dhawan exclaimed that it is important to look forward in life and hence he has called it quits from international and domestic cricket. Moreover, Dhawan feels satisfied that he has played for so long for Indian cricket. He feels happy that he has represented India for a long time and does not feel sad that he won’t be part of the Indian Cricket Team anymore.

It’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played for so long for India. I tell myself not to feel sad that you will not play for India anymore, but to feel happy that you played for your country,” Dhawan said in a video message.

Dhawan has been one of the top 8 batters who have scored over 5000 runs in ODI cricket with an average over 40 and strike rate of over 90. He has been sensational for India in ICC ODI tournaments and was an integral part in India’s win in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
