VVS Laxman will be seen in the role of India’s head coach for the white-ball tour to South Africa. Laxman played a similar role during the reigns of Rahul Dravid as head coach. Laxman heads the NCA and steps up as the incumbent national coach.
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian coach will be seen with the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The decision has been confirmed to Cricbuzz by a BCCI top official. The four-match series was arranged between BCCI and Cricket South Africa which was not initially planned.
With the likes of Abhishek Nayar, Ten Doeschate and the entire Indian coaching team visiting Australia during the phase, other coaches of the National Cricket Academy, like Subhadeep Ghosh, Sairaj Bahutule and Hrishikesh Kanitkar will also be part of the Indian coaching side under Laxman.
Currently, the trio of Bahutule, Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh are seen in the role of head coach, batting and fielding coach for India’s campaign at the ACC Emerging Asia Cup.

The Indian T20 side will miss the services of their senior players, who will be part of the Test side for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yashasvi Jaiswal and alongside Harshit Rana, NK Reddy and Washington Sundar will also travel with the side to Australia.
Hence, India has announced a reinforced side for their tour to South Africa. Once again under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, who during his captaincy reign in 2023, tied a series 1-1 in South Africa, will look to re-establish their honours.
Fast bowlers such as Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Avesh Khan have been picked to mark their efforts for the shortest format of the game with the pace deck.
