The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is scheduled to take place at the end of this year. Meanwhile, former India opener, Wasim Jaffer, has said that if the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj stay fit, India will emerge victorious for the third consecutive time. The former Indian opener went on to add that Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler, Mayank Yadav could prove to be a dark horse in the series
“If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav will be the dark horse provided he’s fit and available,” Wasim Jaffer wrote on his ‘X’ account.
Mayank Yadav announced his arrival in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. Turning up for Lucknow Super Giants, Mayank impressed one and all with his searing pace in his very first game. He returned with stellar figures of 3 for 27 against Punjab Kings. In the following match against RCB, he picked up three wickets for 14 runs.
Unfortunately, he battled through injuries during the season and could only manage to play four games. Nonetheless, he will be a player to watch out for in the upcoming IPL season.
India have won the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Australian shores
There aren’t a lot of teams that have managed to beat Australia in a Test series at their home turf. The Aussies are always dangerous in any part of the world and carried the ‘unbeatable tag’ for many years. India, however, crushed their ego by beating Australia in Australia under Virat Kohli in 2018. India achieved a 2-1 Test series win against Australia and it was the first time that they conquered down under.
In the 2020-21, they put forward a comeback for the ages. They suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Australia in the first Test in Adelaide. They were all-out for just 36 runs in the second innings. The former Aussie players were of the opinion that India would suffer a series whitewash.
However, a young Indian team under Ajinkya Rahane stormed back into the series and won the second Test match in Melbourne. They consistently suffered with injuries and many senior players were sidelined. However, an injured Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari batted the whole day and saved the third Test match in Sydney.
Finally, it was Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant’s heroics which brought the win in the final Test in Brisbane and broke Australia’s fortress – the Gabba. Meanwhile, the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will take place from 22nd November 2024 to 7th January 2025.
