[Watch] Akash Deep picks up two Bangladesh left-handers with two identical deliveries

The first Test between India and Bangladesh is, currently, underway in Chennai. India were bowled out for 376 runs in the first innings. Despite losing six wickets for just 144 runs on the board, India managed to cross 350-mark, courtesy of a sensational partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Later, Indian bowling wreaked havoc with the ball on day 2 of the Test match. Bumrah picked the first wicket of Shadman Islam. Akash Deep then bowled two spectacular balls to dismiss Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque to leave Bangladesh tottering at 22 for 3.

In the eighth over of the innings, he took two wickets in two consecutive balls but wasn’t able to scalp a third wicket on the third ball to pick up a hat-trick. He bowled the two similar deliveries, which pitched on a length and jagged back in to crash the stumps.

You can watch the dismissals here:

Akash Deep, who is a newbie to Test cricket, once again, showcased his potential with the red ball in hand. Deep was sensational in the Duleep Trophy before making into the playing XI for the first Test match against Bangladesh.

India’s current three potent weapons in Test cricket are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. However, with Shami injured, India opted for Akash Deep in first Test. Looking at his recent performances in red-ball cricket, he has clearly shown that he can turn up as the fourth pacer in the Indian Test squad. Moreover, he is no mug with the bat and can contribute valuable runs down the order.

India will travel to Australia at the end of the year to play five Test matches and also travel to England in 2025 to play five Tests. Akash Deep could seal his position in the squad if he continues to dish out such performances.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are bowled out for 149 runs, in response to India’s 376-run total. India have decided to bat again and currently lead by 227 runs.
