Afghanistan Cricket Team faced off against South Africa in the first of the three match ODI series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. An interesting incident happened during South Africa’s batting. Andile Phehlukwayo was at the centre of the attention.

Allah Ghazanfar bowled a delivery to Phehlukwayo and the batter casually stepped out without realising the ball was not dead. Gulbadin Naib was very much into the situation, realised that Phehlukwayo has stepped out of the crease without thinking whether it was a dead ball. Naib hit the stumps directly to catch Phehlukwayo short of the crease.

Here’s a look at the video of the same:

The Afghan players appealed and Phehlukwayo waited in anticipation thinking that he will not be given out. However, the umpires gave the decision in the favour of Afghanistan. Phehlukwayo scored a four-ball duck. South Africa lost all their wickets for just 106 runs in 33.3 overs.

The incident was really a comedy of errors. It is happening on a lot of occasions. In the recent Ashes, Jonny Baistow stepped out of the crease after defending whether realising it was a dead ball or not. Alex Carey was up to the task and inflicted a run-out to catch Bairstow short.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan put in a brilliant performance in the first ODI against South Africa. A sensational bowling effort with the ball from F Farooqui (4 for 35) led to South Africa getting bundled out for just 106 runs on the board. Allah Ghazanfar also exhibited a brilliant bowling performance of 3 for 20 in 10 overs.

In reply, Afghanistan chased down the score in 26 overs. They had lost three three wickets for just 38 runs on the board. However, an unbeaten 47-run partnership between Omarzai (25) and Gulbadin Naib (34) took the team home, in the end.
