During the 3rd ODI between West Indies and England, a fuming incident happened with star West Indian bowler Alzarri Joseph leaving the field. He declined to celebrate a wicket, staying locked in a heated dispute with captain Shai Hope. The incident took place early in the innings after Joseph’s second over, despite him taking a wicket in that over.
The West Indies pacer was dissatisfied with the field setup given to him during the first Power Play after the Windies chose to bowl against England. A disagreement over field placement began between Joseph and captain Shai Hope after the first ball of his over. The bowler was seen furious while bowling the ball to English batter Jordan Cox.
During the aggression, Joseph carried on and delivered a 148.2 kph short ball, which led to the English batter’s dismissal, caught directly by Shai Hope. Alzarri did not celebrated the wicket, rather left the field, after finishing a wicket-maiden over. This is likely the first incident of its kind in International Cricket.
The bowler joined the field at the end of the next over, after a little chat with the coach Darren Sammy. Eventually, Joseph finished with figures of 2 for 45 from his 10 overs, as the West Indies held England to a total of 263/8.
Former England cricketer Mark Butcher stated to Joseph: “Many is the time, as a captain or as a player, that you have a disagreement about something on the field. But you work that out either behind closed doors, or you get on with your job. Your captain asks you to bowl to a field, you bowl to it.”
