Afghanistan faced off against Bangladesh in the third ODI at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on November 11. The Bangla Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first first. A hilarious incident happened on the field of play during the game when Afghanistan were fielding.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah were trying to stitch together a partnership. During the innings, Rashid Khan tried to stop a single but wicket-keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also trying to stop the ball. Just as Khan slid to stop the ball, Gurbaz jumped over him to avoid the clash and displaced Rashid Khan’s hat in the process.
Afghanistan won the series against Bangladesh
Afghanistan managed to win the third ODI by five wickets and take the series. Bangladesh scored 244 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs. Mahmudullah scored 98 runs and Miraj scored 66 runs during the Bangladesh innings. Azmatullah Omarzai scalped four wickets for the Afghanistan team.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan chased down the total in 48.2 overs with a century from Gurbaz. Omarzai also contributed with a 70 runs innings. He was chosen as the Man Of The Match for his all-round display in the game.
“Firstly I want to thank Almighty Allah. It was tough for me coming back from the two bad games, but I was positive hitting the ball where I wanted to. Gurbaz was there, so I was confident, if I miss a few balls, I don’t care as Gurbaz can cover. Whenever I get loose balls I go after it.
Wicket was slow, the ball was sticking, so I used more variations, I was speaking to Rashid and he told me to mix it up and that was the plan. I never bowled in the last overs, it was the first time for me so it was tough. It means a lot for me, it is my first Man of the Match in my four-year ODI career and I’m thankful to Allah,” said Omarzai in the post-match presentation.
