WATCH: Shreyas Iyer smashes two back-to-back sixes off Jofra Archer

India are facing off England in the first ODI of the series in Nagpur. Chasing a target of 249 runs in their 50 overs, India lost two early wickets in the form of captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jofra Archer was bowling fast and troubling the Indian batters. However, Shreyas Iyer, who came out to bat at number four, steadied the ship and soon took on the bowlers.

Everyone is aware of the fact that Iyer struggles against short-pitched deliveries. On the fifth and sixth deliveries of the seventh over, Archer decided to test him with two short of a length deliveries, but Iyer was up to the task and smashed two sixes.

On the fifth ball of the seventh over, Archer bowled a short of length delivery outside off; Iyer waited on the back foot and pulled Archer for a six over deep mid wicket. On the very next ball, Archer bowled it short, and outside off, Iyer tried to slash over point; he got an outside edge, which flew over the third-man region for a six. He was finally dismissed for 59 runs off 36 balls.

England won the toss and elected to bat first

Meanwhile, coming to the match as a whole, England won the toss and elected to bat first. India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, missed the match due to a knee injury. India bowled out England for 248 runs in 47.4 overs. Harshit Rana, making his ODI debut, scalped three wickets; Ravindra Jadeja also scalped three wickets. They were the two star bowlers for India.

Captain Buttler was the highest scorer for England, as he scored 52 runs off 67 deliveries. Jacob Bethell scored 51 runs off 64 deliveries. Phil Salt was aggressive as an opener, as he scored 43 runs off 26 balls. At the time of writing, India are 113-3 at the end of 16 overs. England will need to pick up quick wickets to get back into the game.
