Virat Kohli imitates the sandpaper incident after Steve Smith’s dismissal at SCG and mocks the crowd with his antics

Indian veteran batter Virat Kohli was the stand-in skipper for India as Jasprit Bumrah could not step onto the ground during the fourth innings of play on the final day of the SCG Test.

Bumrah suffered a bad back spasm and was hence ruled out from a bowling spell, which rather helped the Aussie batters to chase the target with much ease.

During the Australian fourth innings, Prasidh Krishna dismissed three of the Australian batters, while his last wicket was that of veteran Aussie batter Steve Smith, who fell just one run short of 10,000-run mark, and this was when Kohli rubbed salt in the wounds of the Australian crowd.

Kohli mocked the crowd as he imitated the famous sandpaper incident, where he showed his pockets and garments to the crowd, showcasing how India is not the team doing odds but rather a team that upholds the spirit of the game and depends on talent possessed.

India started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024/25 on a strong note at Perth after 3-0 humiliating defeat against New Zealand.

Australia bounced back with supreme form in the pink ball test at Adelaide, while almost ceasing the Gabba Test, which ended in a draw due to rain, and then followed with 2 more wins at the MCG and the SCG.

The Aussies have now retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a scoreline of 3-1, and Pat Cummins will lead them to the WTC final for the second consecutive time. India, for the first time, has failed to reach the finals of the WTC.
