The Day 3 of the first Test match between India and Bangladesh ended with Bangladesh posting 158/4 in the second innings.

They still need 357 runs to register a historic win in Chennai. This was after India registered 287 for the loss of 4 wickets and declared the innings.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant both smashed respective centuries in India’s second innings and helped India set a daunting target of 515 runs for Bangladesh to chase in the fourth innings.

The Bangladesh openers took their team to good start in the fourth innings and it required a special catch from Yashasvi Jaiswal to break the partnership.

Bumrah bowled a fuller length delivery to Zakir Hasan that was leaving the left hander. Hasan went for the drive with hard hands, got an outside edge that flew through the gully region.

Jaiswal, who was stationed there, saw the ball late but went with his reflexed to take a stunning low catch.

The Indian fielders were elated as it was hard to believe that Jaiswal had pulled off a stunning catch to send back the Bangladeshi opener.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the talismanic off-spinner, did not manage to pick up a single wicket in the first innings.

However, he returned with flying colours as he picked up three wickets on Day 3.

He sent back Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim and gave India a dominating position at the end of Day 3.

Bangladeshi batters have to bat really well if they need to script a famous victory at the Chepauk.

With the wicket expected to break even more, Ashwin and Jadeja will become even more dangerous on Day 4. It remains to be seen who takes the initiative in the early hours of Day 4.
