Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has passed his views on the recently announced 10-point guideline by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This guideline was announced after India’s unexpected 3-1 loss of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Team India delivered a disappointing performance in the recently concluded series against Australia. The team struggled to meet expectations, facing challenges in key areas such as batting consistency, bowling execution, and fielding.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to capitalize on crucial moments, leading to losses that highlighted weaknesses in their strategy and adaptability. The series served as a wake-up call for the team, emphasizing the need for introspection and improvements ahead of upcoming challenges.

Following this a board meeting of the BCCI occurred before the announcement of 10-poiny guidelines for future tours. Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh criticized the step of BCCI. He stated,

“When I was reading the travel policy document reported by the media, I hardly found anything new from the last time I represented India as a centrally-contracted cricketer. At least nine out of 10 points, including duration of family visits, staying in same hotel, practice timings, all are same. My question is if these rules were in place during my time, who all have altered it and when? That should be probed.”

The former off-spinner added,

“We are deviating from the main issue. We didn’t lose 1-3 because wives and partners were there for two months. We didn’t lose because someone travelled separately. We lost because we have played very poor cricket at times. We didn’t bat well even at home. We have players who are horribly out of form. What are the course corrections being made? Or is it just these off-the-field things being discussed?”

Following India’s exclusion from the World Test Championship final and consecutive Test series losses to New Zealand and Australia, the BCCI implemented significant measures to address the team’s shortcomings.

These steps included revisiting team strategies, overhauling the coaching staff, and prioritizing player workload management to enhance performance across formats. The BCCI also emphasized improving domestic cricket infrastructure to nurture upcoming players and strengthen the talent pipeline, aiming for a stronger comeback in future international tournaments.
