Former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul finally opened up on his viral animated conversation with the owner of franchise Sanjiv Goenka, after losing a game from the winning situation during IPL 2024. This is believed to be the reason behind the departure of the captain from the franchise ahead of the next season.

During the IPL 2024, a video from the Lucknow Super Giants dugout surfaced on social media, sparking significant buzz in Indian cricket. The clip showed Goenka openly reprimanding Rahul after the teamโ€™s defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was clearly seen as the captain and owner were involved in a heated conversation.

Although Goenka attempted to mend fences by inviting Rahul to a private dinner, rumors of discord within the Lucknow camp continued to circulate. Tensions reportedly remained high, leading to Rahulโ€™s eventual removal from the squad.

In a recent interview, KL Rahul revealed that,

“As a team, we were all in shock because we were at the stage in that tournament where every game was very important. We had to win, I think, three out of five games or two out of the last four games. When this happened, it was just a big shock for all of us.”

He concluded by saying,

“Whatever happened on the field after the game wasn’t the nicest thing to be part of or something that anyone wants to see on the cricket field. I think it did affect the entire group. We still had a chance to make it into the playoffs. We had a chat as a team and tried to regroup, put everything aside, and try to put our best foot forward. We tried our best, but unfortunately, our best wasn’t good enough always. It was a bummer that we couldn’t really make the playoffs or win the season as we had hoped.”ย

KL Rahul recalled the match and accepted his mistake of playing a slow and steady knock, which resulted in a low total. SRH completely dominated the match by winning it by 10 wickets in just 9.4 overs.
