Team India suffered a defeat by 10 wickets against Australia in the second Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Series at the Adelaide Oval. India won the first Test match at the Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma missed the first Test due to the birth of his son. However, his first appearance in the tour did not yield good results for him and also his team.
Ahead of the Adelaide Test match, Indian team management had given access to the fans to attend Team India’s practice sessions. However, some fans might have passed some insensitive remarks during the session and hence the team management banned fans from attending the session. At the post-match press conference after the Adelaide Test, the Indian captain talked about this.
What did Rohit Sharma say?
During the press conference, Rohit Sharma conveyed that net sessions are typically private, noting that it was unprecedented to see such a large crowd at the nets. He explained that a lot of private conversations occur during training sessions, which include strategic planning, and emphasized that they prefer these discussions to remain confidential.
“You know, the net sessions are very private, and this was the first time ever I saw so many people during the nets. And when you’re training, when you’re practising, there are a lot of conversation that happens, and those conversations are very private. We don’t want anyone to hear those conversations. It is as simple as that because there’s a lot of planning,” Rohit said in the press conference.
He mentioned that there is considerable conversation during practice and pointed out that the crowds are very close to where they train. Rohit suggested that since there are five days of Test cricket, fans could watch them during those matches instead.
“There’s a lot of talking that happens. And the crowds are very close to that practice facility. There are five days of Test cricket. They can come and watch us there,” he said.
