During the IPL 2025 mega auction, young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who hails from Bihar, was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for a price of INR 1.10 crore. The 13-year-old became the youngest player to ever be sold in the IPL auction.
The emerging batter grabbed the spotlight after delivering a stunning performance, smashing a fast-paced century during a four-day match against Australia A. His aggressive yet composed innings not only showcased his exceptional skill and temperament but also highlighted his ability to thrive under pressure, earning him widespread recognition in the cricketing world.
Rajasthan Royals, renowned for investing in and nurturing young talent, secured the batting sensation after an intense bidding war with the Delhi Capitals. After the auction, it was disclosed that the young lad had attended the trials camp with the Royals and impressed Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour with his batting.
After his sale, various allegations and accusations have surfaced regarding Vaibhav Suryanshi’s age, with some critics questioning the authenticity of his reported birth date. This has sparked a debate among fans and experts, casting a shadow over his recent achievements and raising concerns about transparency in player documentation.
To these assertions, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, firmly defended his son by taking a stand against these claims.
He revealed,
“When he was 8 and a half years old, he first appeared for a BCCI bone test. He has already played India U-19. We donโt fear anyone. He can again undergo an age test.”
“During trials in Nagpur, batting coach Vikram Rathour gave him a task to score 17 runs in one over. Vaibhav hit three sixes! In total, he smashed eight sixes and four boundaries during the trials.” his father added.
This shows that the age fraud allegations against him are completely untrue, as the evidence and documents clearly prove his real age, putting the doubts to rest.
Vaibhav Suryanvanshi has played Ranji Trophy for Bihar after making his debut this season and is also a part of Bihar’s team in the Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy.
